Hi everyone,
My name is Antoinette, and I’d like to share a little about my daughter, Katie. That's her in our profile picture.
Katie is 18 years old and has lived with cerebral palsy since birth. On top of that, she also has a dislocated (dysplastic) hip, a twisted femur, and a retroverted pelvis. Her hip joint is now so badly worn down that the ball and socket are shaped more like a saucer than a joint.
Katie has been in pain since she was just four years old. Over the years, we’ve fought hard to get her the care she needs, but despite all our efforts, the surgeons here in Ireland—especially in Cork—keep telling us she's too weak for surgery. After years of being given excuse after excuse, we had almost lost hope.
But we finally found a surgeon in the Paley Institute in Florida who believes in Katie and is willing to operate. This is the chance we’ve been praying for—but it comes at a heartbreaking cost: over €300,000 for surgery and related expenses.
We’ve been fundraising for two years now. It’s been incredibly tough, but we will never give up on our daughter. Katie deserves the chance to walk without pain, to live her life fully—and we’re determined to make that happen.
